Greetings and welcome to a whole new universe of science fiction gaming! Corona Galaxy combines elements of three of the most popular types of games, role-playing, board warfare and empire building games.
Simulator, empire-building and king-making games come directly from our childhood sandbox play where we built sand castles and populated them in our imaginations with royalty, peasants and heroes. In our adult lives, everyone who has watched more than a few episodes of their favorite science fiction TV show has wondered "What if they went to a world where...?"
...the dominant lifeform is descended from something other than an ape-like creature.
...a certain philosophy or set of beliefs became dominant across the planet.
...worlds of fantasy and imagination actually exist.
What have you. The choice is yours. The only limits are those of your imagination
Board warfare games and tactical simulations have always appealed to a broad segment of the gaming public. Battleship is one simple example of this kind of game. There are dozens of more complicated and richly detailed systems available, but none, until now, have been wed to the other two types of games.
For more than four decades, the gaming world has had a logical extension of "Let's Pretend" in the form of role-playing games or RPGs. The chance to step out of your everyday existance and become somebody else is at the heart of much of our childhood play. It should be no surprise that as adults we still feel the need to live vicariously through imaginary lives, be they characters in a book, television show or movie or one we have made up ourselves. This is the heart of the RPG.
For the first time, Corona Galaxy melds all three types of games into a single, interactive platform. It should be noted, and will be noted again, that if the Game Master has a prefered system for any one of these gaming levels, they should feel free to use it in place of the basic systems offered here. It may be helpful, however, to understand how the three game levels work with each other in order to fairly utilize the data in a cross-platform manner.
I have always felt that gaming is a form of intereactive story-telling: the GM sets forth the circumstances and the players write the story with their actions. In this way, Corona Galaxy is also story-telling platform, but it is not limited to the interactions of games and game masters. I am, at heart, a story teller and have written several stories about characters and situations in the Corona Galaxy universe. These will be posted on the website eventually along with stories by other authors, some of whom have been play-testers of the Corona Galaxy system. Anyone who feels inspired to write stories of their own are welcome to submit their efforts to be considered for online publication. Click on "Caveat & Contributions" for more information. At this point, Corona Galaxy is strictly a dice-and-paper game, but there are plans to expand it into other forms including video games and a MMPORPG at a future time. User input will be even more important as time goes on
Whether stepping into an imaginary life, exploring your ideas and theories for civilizations or seeking out high adventure on the high frontier, Corona Galaxy is designed to let your imagination take flight! Strap in, unfetter your mind, and let your inner child explore the Big Dark!
