Coronapedia - The Corona Galaxy

The galaxy is about 30,000 Ly (lightyears) across, roughly disk shaped with a central habitable zone 1000 Ly thick encompassing more than 700 billion cubic LY of space. There are about 400 billion stars of which 200 million are thought to have habitable planets. On roughly ten percent of those some form of life has arisen and altogether there are believed to be about three million worlds with intelligent life that is a potential space-faring civilization. Most systems with habitable planets have warp points commonly called Stargates which allows a properly equipped ship to travel between systems very quickly.

Billions of years ago, two small spiral galaxies collided, creating what is now the Corona Galaxy. Because there is so much space between stars, most systems were not affected in any way, as far as anyone can tell, but not all were so lucky. Hundreds of thousands of star systems were completely wiped out, the incredible forces they were subjected to pulverized them into their component parts. Most of these became the halo of gas and dust that surrounds the galaxy. The radiation released by this destruction still bounces around, creating dead zones beyond the 1000 Ly central disc of the galaxy. It is believed that the energies may be settling down and within a few billion years the rest of the galaxy may become habitable. What will be discovered when these areas are explored is a matter of speculation and debate.

Although technically a huge irregular galaxy, Corona shows signs of settling down to be a typical spiral galaxy eventually. Again, this will not happen for many billions of years
