Of the mystery powers, the best known are the Drakkonides: large, fierce reptiloids who attack anything that moves, eats just about anything that lives, and leave little more than debris in their wake. It has been said of them that they are the ultimate consumers. The only survivor of a Drakkonide attack described the horrific way the rest of her crew died - it seems that the Draks like to "play" with their food - before she lapsed into a catatonic state. The Drakkonides seem to be crossing the Alliance and the Great Eastern Empire through deep space, not using stargate technology at all, though when and where they will show up is hard to say.
Like the Draks themselves, their ships are large and powerful, designed to approach a target by stealth, disable it and mount a boarding action by punching through the hull with hollow access tubes. The Draks themselves wear a kind of leather body armor and carry bladed and energy weapons, both of which they are very good with. No vessel has yet been able to repel such an attack, perhaps because they avoid military vessels, concentrating almost exclusively on freighters and small transports. The attackers seem to be able to disable a ship's flight recorders to help cover their activities, but not before the actual boarding action is recorded. This is the source of most of the data known about them. Unlike the bug ships, they leave the plundered ships mostly intact, though the carnage they leave behind is extensive. Disaster scene investigators have pieced together a small amount of data from this, including corroboration of the lone survivor's description of the horror she witnessed.
Because of the interterritorial threat of these creatures, what little information is know is readily shared between governments. The capture or at least the close scan of a Drakkonide ship is a high priority in the Alliance and Eastern Empire.
