Perhaps the most mysterious of the unknown powers in the region are the Pyramid Ships. Vessels in the shape of a three-sided pyramid about 500 meters between all corners, their power and propulsion are unknown and undetectable at a distance, but they seems to be restricted to the same limitations as solium powered vessels; only slightly faster than .4c, they are always seen making their way toward a known stargate, if cornered in a system without another known gate, they always self-destruct. They are believed to be probes from some distant society, though how they know that their pursuer does not know about stargates in connecting systems is unknown. The best guess is that they are somehow able to read another ship’s data banks even from across a star system. This, and the lack of scannable energy and propulsion systems, indicates a very high level of technology despite their apparent limitations.
Pyramid ships are always seen in unsettled systems making their way toward another stargate. No one has ever gotten close enough for a deep scan of one. They have been spotted by almost every space-faring race that has explored more than a few star systems and may very well be the source of legends of unidentified flying objects in the pre-space history of many planets.
